"Babar the Elephant"

How it all started...

Three months ago, one of my friends posted on her Facebook page some Star Wars characters knitted by her mother in-law... I thought they looked great and decided to have a look to see how they were made, purely by curiosity!

(I am not a knitter but I did crochet once or twice in my life: granny squares mainly. I remember making about 20 of them just to master the technique without any idea behind).

Back to Star Wars, I decided to have a look for similar things made with crochet and discovered a new world!

There are so many things we can do with a little hook... I got addicted very quickly!

So as a practice, based on patterns I found, I made a set of Star Wars characters for my sons. Then they asked me for extra characters that had no pattern - the creation process started.

I designed a few new characters from the last movie to add to their collection: Maz Kanata, Finn in stormtrooper, Finn in Pilot outfit, Rey... then came Queen Padme, Darth Maul, my version of Luke etc.

It was a great process, challenging and fun: the boys would comment on every stage: “you should add this”, “the head is more like that”, “how about her bag...”.

After Star Wars, they requested different characters.

One of their favourite book when they were young was: “Babar the Elephant”.

So, I decided to create my version of Babar. The Design is unique.

I created it as I was making it, it was a process of trials and errors.

I made this Babar twice, once while designing it and once to check my pattern for errors. That's dedication! Then came the writing process to be able to make it again... and from there came the idea to sell the patterns - thinking it will pay for my wool in the future!

I have now opened a shop on Etsy to sell my patterns. At the moment you can find the few I made inspired by Star Wars, followed by Babar and Zephir.
